June 5, 2017 -- Sweet is the work!
I am beyond joyous to be out in the field serving the Lord! I am currently serving in Madison Florida, a tiny little town about an hour outside of Tallahassee. This place is absolutely gorgeous, and the members in our little branch are incredibly welcoming. Every morning we go and exercise next to a little lake in town, and everyone that we talk to is very kind and courteous. I am beyond blessed to be here with these children of God.
My trainer's name is Sister Hulstine, and she is one of the best people it has ever been my pleasure to meet. She is kind and intelligent, and the way she interacts with everyone is very inspiring to me. She is from California and went to school at BYUI for two years before coming out into the field. She makes me laugh, taught me how to make tostadas, and brings me closer to Christ everyday.
We have a baptism coming up this Saturday! One of our investigators, James, has been working to be baptized on this Saturday at 11. We pray that he will be able to accomplish this and feel of the joy and happiness that comes from entering into the waters of baptism. He is such an earnest man, and I have enjoyed getting to know him and teaching him. He is truly devoted to his conversion. Another one of our investigators is named Mario, and he is truly amazing. He doesn't speak English very well, so he talks to us in his own version of Spanglish that is much more span than glish. There is a member in our branch, Sister Robinson, who is from Columbia and helps translate what he is saying so that we can teach him. He asks a million questions and is very curious about the Gospel, and it is a joy to teach him. We are also teaching an amazing couple, Sandy and Belinda Turner, who have lots of questions about church. They came to church on Sunday and said that they loved the service and could really feel the love and acceptance from all of the members. This area has a lot of churches, and almost everyone belongs to one of them. Much like in Joseph Smith's time, there is much religious confusion going on here. We were glad to be able to show Sandy and Belinda that our church is one of love, acceptance, and charity.
The branch is really wonderful. There is one main family here, the Robinsons. The two older Robinsons are brothers, and one of them has an adult son in the branch as well. It was hard for me to keep them all straight in my head for a while! We had dinner at a member's house, and Brother Waddoup taught me how to use a bullwhip, which was an awesome experience. He said I picked up on it really fast, and we jokingly said it was because I'm from Texas.
We find new people to teach almost everyday, and people are very receptive of our message and glad to talk to us about Christ. We can really see his hand in our work, and I can personally see his strengthening influence in my own life as I adjust to being here in the field. The days are long, the hours are full, and the work is joyous and fulfilling. Just in this week I have felt more love for my Heavenly Father's children than I ever have before, and I am so grateful for this chance to bring the World his truth.
I also love Florida. It is hot and humid, just like I like it. The first night at my apartment the air conditioner was broken, so it was a little bit like being thrown into the fire. I thought it was awesome. Sister Hulstine was not as happy about it as I was.
That is it for this week! I love you all and miss you so much. I'm so grateful for your prayers and I am praying for all of you back home as well.
If y'all want to write me letters or send me stuff, this will be my address for the next 6 weeks. (I love letters)
