September 18, 2017 -- Serendipity in Gulf Breeze

Friends, Countrymen, Lend me your ears! (Or eyes I suppose!)

This week has been an interesting one, full of such great miracles! The first is an incredible new investigator named Pengpai Li. She is a wonderful Chinese lady who moved here to the States just a few years ago. Last month she decided to go to Temple Square and learn about the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, which she had never heard of before going to Salt Lake. Where she is from, she had never even heard the name "Jesus Christ". While at Temple Square, she was impressed by the Chinese Sister Missionaries she had met. Apparently one of them was from a town near where Pengpai had lived! That Sister had moved to the United States, met missionaries, got baptized, and then left on her mission all in a three year time span. Pengpai decided that she wants that happiness in her life, and she told us she wants to be the first religious person in her family and help all of her family come to know the truth about God. The Temple Square Missionaries refered her to us because she lives in our area, and now we have the honor to teach her! It is very different teaching someone who has never even heard of Christ or God before, so our teaching abilities have been greatly challenged. Pengpai is so amazing and has such a sincere heart and desire to learn all that she can. She has both a Chinese and an English copy of the Book of Mormon, and since meeting with the Missionaries in Utah, she has read all the way to the Book of Jacob in the Book of Mormon! For those of you who might not know, that is pretty significant. It is also a little difficult to teach her because there is such a language barrier. In my last area, I needed to learn Spanish. In this area I need to learn Chinese! It is such an honor and a blessing to be a part of something that truly does span every single person on this Earth, because God loves each and every single one of his children.

We were able to have another lesson with Kat, and it was so amazing. She opened up to us about her relationship with her Savior, and we testified of God's great love for her. We talked about how the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints truly is Christ's church restored on the Earth today. She accepted the Invitation to be baptized by someone holding the Priesthood Power of God on October 28th! Then we found out that she actually lives outside of our area. So, basically, she will continue to be taught by the Elders serving in the Milton Ward instead of us. That was a little disappointing, because we have loved being a part of her journey. However, even though we won't be the missionaries continuing to teach her, we are so excited for her to be making decisions in her life to draw closer to Christ and to feel of his great love in her life. The Elders in Milton are amazing, and you can bet that we will be at her baptism (if we don't get transferred first!)

This week we went on Exchanges with The Sister Training Leaders. Sister Adams stayed here in Fox Run with Sister Fletcher, and I spent the day in Gulf Breeze with Sister Sant. It was an incredible experience, and I learned so much from being with her for the day. We taught one of their investigators, Aliza, and she and her two kids accepted the invitation to be baptized on September 23rd! I also found out that Sister Sant lived in the same apartment complex at BYU that I had before coming out on her mission- in fact, she lived in the exact same ward! She submitted her mission papers with the same Bishop I did, (Hi Bishop Johns! Sister Sant says hello!) and she even knew some of the people that I met while I was at school. It was such a tender mercy, and it was a nice little reminder of home. She will be going home in January, so I'll be sure to have her say hello to my King Henry family. Go YSA 63rd Ward!

I also had the opportunity to sing in Sacrament meeting this Sunday. One of the youth in the ward, Becky Mcloed, is an incredible actress and has an amazing voice. A few Sundays ago we were just talking some and discussing musicals (because what else would I be talking about, right? Lol) And she told me she was planning on singing "Come Thou Fount" in church- and asked me to join her! She made the arrangement herself, found a pianist in the ward to accompany us, and even printed off music for me. Basically all I did was show up. It was a stupendous experience, and I loved helping her to feel comfortable to share her talents. There were many ward members who came up to thank us for our song, and they all wanted to know if Becky was planning on serving a mission! Becky said she hadn't really contemplated it before, but now she certainly was!

That is all for this week folks! I really love you. I miss you dearly. Only a little over a year left!

Picture: We found an intersection that is my first and middle names. I hadn't even thought about them in weeks. So here is my little reminder that I do, in fact, have a first name. Someday I won't be Sister Scott all the time!
