September 4, 2017 -- God's Hands
Because we don't have a car anymore, we bike a lot here. We calculated it, and we bike over 12 miles everyday. Biking is not my favorite thing to do, and my legs are very sore. Sister Adams, however, is an amazing biker. She leaves me in the dust every single day and someday I will bike as fast as her! It is one of my goals for this area. By the time I leave here, I am going to be an Olympic Biker.
This area is so amazing, and I am so blessed to be God's servant here. We have had so many funny and interesting experiences. We went to go see a member of the ward, and when we knocked on the door of the address we had, a different lady answered! She told us that she was a prophetess, and we had the coolest conversation talking to her about personal revelation and our individual relationships with God. She gave us her business card, and we might be doing some service at her church sometime soon.
There was also a day that we pulled up to an apartment building that you had to have a key-code in order to get in. We were about to call the member who we were trying to see to get their code, when the gates opened! We didn't type anything in, the gate had been closed, and there was no one in sight. As we pulled through, we both got the overwhelming impression that there was something that God needed us to do here, and that that is why the gate had been opened for us. We talked to multiple people there- one man who told us that he was a member of a denomination of one, and that he believed in Christ, but no church he could find believed what he thought was true. We told him about the Plan of Salvation, and he said that sounds like what he believes! We also met a lady who is an activities director for the local Seventh Day Adventists here, and she invited us to come to serve with her there! It was so amazing, and we knew that God needed us right there, right then, to meet those two people. The members we were coming to see ended up not being home, so there was no way we could have ever met them without the Lord.
This week while serving at the Bishop's Storehouse, I saw Brother Wilson! The Wilsons were a family that lived in my home ward in Texas that moved to Florida about three years ago. He is the Bishop of the Crestview Ward now! Seeing him was so awesome- it reminded me so much of why I am out here serving the Lord in the first place. It was like being reminded of home and family. I am here in Florida sharing the Gospel, because I want people to be able to be with their loved ones for all eternity, just like I'll be with mine.
There is a recent convert here, Whitney Sadler, who is the coolest and most faithful person I have met. She has such a great testimony, and she recently was able to go to the temple for the first time. Each lesson with her is full of Spirit and light, and being with her strengthens my resolve to tell the entire world about the truths that I know. It changes lives, it truly does. There is so much happiness that can be found in the Restored Church of Jesus Christ, and that is the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Our investigators Coya, Alilja, and Dontrell have all set baptismal dates for October! We are so excited to work with each of them. Dontrell's fiancee, Andrea, has also started investigating the church, and she is excited to learn more about the Book of Mormon, or, as she calls it, "The Bible of Mormon". They make me smile, and I can feel the love that God has for them every time we meet.
This week as well we had the honor to meet a man named Stephen. We were walking through his neighborhood and we asked a few people who weren't interested in hearing our message who they knew that might be interested. This string of referrals ended with Stephen. He told us that he had been praying to God for weeks, and then we showed up. He has been incredibly lonely for a long time, and God sent him missionaries! He is being taught by the Elders now, and he has been reading the Book of Mormon. We even came to church on Sunday, and said he liked it and has a lot of questions about it.
Also on Sunday, a really sweet girl named Kat came to church. She recently moved here from Chicago, and she say that she has been looking for truth and a church to call home for a while, and that we decided to come see what our church was about. She stayed for Sacrament Meeting and Sunday School, and she said that she loved it and really felt like our church had a family atmosphere. We even asked us if we could come by sometime before we even offered! We are going to go see her again this Saturday, and Whitney Sadler is going to be coming too. Kat told us she plans to come to our church again next week, and that she really liked what she felt there.
Honestly, this whole week has been so full of miracles. Every single day something has happened that has proved to me that God is the one leading this work. There are so many people out there that we would not have been able to meet without his influence and power, and I am so grateful to be able to witness all the love that Heavenly Father has for each of his children.
I love this work. I love the Lord. I love the people here. I love all of you. I am so incredibly grateful to God for letting me be a part of the Salvation of His children.
And hey- read the Book of Mormon?
