October 30, 2017 -- The Foxy Run Sisters Judge a Chili Cook-Off
This week has been a crazy one! (Just like all of them- lol)
Firstly we had spaghetti four times this week and four different member's homes and they all sent leftovers home with us. I don't know if I am ever going to want spaghetti again. Or garlic bread. Which is not something I ever thought I was going to say.
On Wednesday night we went over to the Sellers for dinner, and Sister Sellers' son-in-law, Brpther Vought, let us sit in the back of his police car! It was so fun, and he showed us a little bit about how his equipment works. He cut off some "police line" tape for each of us, which was very entertaining. (See the pictures below!)
On Friday we were going to a neighborhood to try some less-active members in the area. While we were there we saw a house that was SO decorated for Halloween, it was amazing! Sister Adams said that we needed to go knock on that door, so we did. The lady that opened it, Jennifer, was so nice! She was interested to hear our message and she actually set a return appointment for us to come back and talk again. That is one of the first times that has actually happened to me from knocking on doors. It was such a miracle! The only door we knocked that day was the one with someone who wanted to hear what we have to say. Isn't the Lord so good?!
Saturday was the trunk-or-treat, which was so much fun! Here in the Fox Run Ward they always have a chili cook-off every year before the kids go car to car for candy, and in previous years people have gotten angry about who won the cook-off. So our bishop, Bishop Smith, decided that this year, the missionaries were going to judge it! That way if anyone was mad, it was okay because the judges were going to leave pretty soon anyway. It made us laugh but it was really fun. President Smith, our mission president, was actually here in the area because we had all had interviews with him that day, so he came to the trunk-or-treat and did some proselyting work with our Elders. It was really fun to spend some time with him in a more casual setting- judging a chili cook-off is just about the most relaxed you can be. He also let Sister Adams and I wear some fox ears that we had found a few weeks ago to the trunk-or-treat, because was are the Fox Run Sisters! No one else in the mission got to wear costumes, so we felt a little special.
Church this week was so amazing! Sister Burton and her daughters came to church, as well as Austin! They all told us that they had a great time. Austin loved our services and he loved how friendly and kind people were. He has previously had some bad experiences with Churches being a little too "fire-and-brimstone", and he told us he thinks that the Bible is talking about a merciful God, not one looking to damn anyone he can to Hell. The girls, Hayden, and Janea loved primary so much, and they are so excited for their baptism! They were originally going to be baptized on November 18th, but they want their uncle to be the one to baptize them, and so they are now going to be baptized on December 2nd. They just light up every single time they talk about it. I was asked to give a talk this week, as well as a recently returned missionary, Elijah. It was a very powerful meeting, and you could certainly feel the Spirit as we testified of the Restoration of Jesus Christ's church back to the Earth and the Book of Mormon.
The Burtons also invited us to come help them decorate their house for Halloween, and that was so much fun! We had so much fun with that family. One of the things I love the most about being a servant of the Lord is how much you love the people. I hope I get to be a part of the Burton girl's lives for a very long time! They are just the best people, and I love them more than I can ever express.
That is it for this week everyone. I miss you lots, I love you lots more, and hey- Read the Book of Mormon? ;)
