November 13, 2017 -- Applesauce, Sassafras, Hallelujah!
Hello Everyone!!
This past week was so crazy! It was my 6 month mark, which means I am officially 1/3 of the way through my mission. It is so insane how quickly time has flown. We did nothing for my 6 month mark except missionary work, which was exactly how it should be.
Bad news, unfortunately we had to stop teaching Austin. He told his family that he was going to be baptized into the church, and they got very upset and told him that as long as they were paying for his school, he would be the religion they picked for him. He told us that he is still going to read the Book of Mormon, and in 2 years when he can start paying for his own school he will be baptized. He still comes up and says hi to us whenever we see him on campus too.
On Saturday we did some service for a lady in our ward named Sister Gray. She is incredibly faith-filled, and she converted to the church in the 70s. She was raised very southern baptist, and while we were doing service for her in her lawn she told us about how Jesus helps her do her make-up in the morning and how there are angels that live on her roof. We just love her so much! She is a little older, so it has been a while since anyone has touched her yard. When we saw what we were going to mow, I said a silent prayer of thanks for my parents. Thank you Dad for making me mow the lawn every Saturday morning, and thank you Mom for helping me to correctly learn how to pull a weed. All of that was in preparation for the service I did this Saturday.
I also got to go on an exchange with Sister Fletcher, one of our Sister Training Leaders. It was so great! She had to bike with me, and she was not prepared for how difficult the biking is in Fox Run. We tried to warn her, but it really isn't something you can prepare for. It was her very last exchange ever because she goes home this week, so it was a great honor to be able to be with her on her final exchange. Our ward mission leader's wife, Sister Hostetler, also taught us how to make sushi! So I can add that to the list of things I have learned on my mission.
To explain the subject of this email- the Burton girls are both still on date to be baptized on December 2nd. They are both so excited and sweet, and we are just blessed that we will both still be here to see them make great covenants with God! They are having a little trouble with prayers though, because they feel like they don't know what to say. Sister Burton was so funny as she was explaining prayers to them. She said, "The only parts you HAVE to say are the beginning and the end. You start with "Dear Heavenly Father", end "in the name of Jesus Christ", and say whatever you want in the middle! You could even say applesauce, sassafras, hallelujah!" We all just about died from laughter. The girls felt much more comfortable after that, and Janea said a beautiful opening prayer and Hayden said a beautiful closing prayer.
As we were biking this week, we saw a man biking the opposite direction coming down the road. Usually we don't try to stop and talk to other bikers because it causes a safety hazard on the busy roads we bike, but we felt like we really needed to talk to him. We invited him to church and gave him a copy of the Book of Mormon, and he actually came! He even brought a friend named Nicole. He said he loved the services, and even asked US if there was a time we could meet and talk about the Gospel and the Restoration. It was such a miracle.
We also got transfer news this morning, both Sister Adams and I will be staying here in Fox Run! This is her last transfer, so I am going to be her last companion and this will be her last area. I can't believe she is actually about to go home and see her family- those words don't even make sense in my head. She is doing her best not to talk about it too much so that I won't get homesick, which I appreciate.
That is all for this week! I love you all so much. I hope you know how much the Lord loves you, and how important you are to Him. (and to me!!!) Only one short year left to serve God, I can't wait for all the incredible adventures ahead.
Miss you! And hey-- read the Book of Mormon, okay?
