April 9, 2018 -- Met Dobby and Found Out That Plastic Bags are Hard to Crochet
Hey everyone!!
My heart is very full right now. At this moment, I am just so grateful to God for everything that He has done for me. I am grateful for each person that I have met on my mission, and the impact that they made on me. My 11th month mark is tomorrow, and I have been reflecting a lot on my mission because of that. I am not the same person who stepped onto a plane nearly a year ago, and I can't even imagine who I would be without the time I have spent serving God. I am incredibly excited for the 7 months I have left! God isn't finished with me yet, and He won't be until the time I go home to Him.
We have seen a lot of great things this week. As the subject line of this email states, I met Dobby! One of the members of the ward here in Pace as an authentic Dobby replica in his home, and he let me take pictures with it. My little Harry Potter loving heart just about exploded. Hey Mom, can I go to Harry Potter world for Christmas this year? Please?
We have also been able to do a lot of service work. We helped a member do some yard work on Wednesday. They recently bought a house, and they found glass in the yard a few weeks after moving in! With four little kids wanting to use the backyard, glass in the dirt is not a fun situation. We helped them weed and get ready to tear up all of their turf so that they can fix the problem. (Thanks Dad for helping me have some experience with yard-work!) They moved here from Hawaii, and as a part of the military they got their car shipped here. So for the first time in my life I saw a Hawaiian licence plate! That was not something I expected to see in Florida. New experiences are happening every day. 😊
I also need to thank Autumn and Sister Kitchen for teaching me how to crochet a few months ago, because we recently became a part of a service project called "Bag Ladies". It is an organization that takes old plastic bags from grocery stores and crochets them into sleeping mats for the homeless. It's an incredible project, and with the little amount of skill I gained from my crocheting teachers, I am able to help! I love that God gave me all the tools I would need to be a contributing member of this service project right before I was introduced to it. Crocheting yarn and crocheting plastic is very different though, and it is taking some patience to figure it out.
The work is picking up a little bit here as well! We started teaching a really sweet lady named Debby whose husband is a member of the church. She has the brightest personality and the most infectious smile, and I love her already. We have another appointment scheduled for this coming week. She is a cosmetologist and she said she would give me a haircut, which is much needed because I haven't gotten one one since I was companions with Sister Adams. You forget about stuff like that in the middle of missionary life!
I hope you are all feeling the love of God in your lives right now. I know He loves you. I love you too. God is always there for you, and He is never going to leave you alone.
Have a great week everyone, and don't forget to read the Book of Mormon!
