May 14, 2018 -- Mother's Day and the Coffee Aisle
Hello All!
So I got to talk to my family this week and it was INCREDIBLE and I only cried three times, which I think is a win based off of the amount of crying I usually do. It was so good to see their faces and hear their voices. I even got to see two of my uncles and two of my little cousins! The only thing that would have made it better was if my sister Jessica had been able to be on the call, but I guess I'll give her a pass because I am pretty sure she is in Korea. The weirdest part of all of this was that this was my final call home. The next time I hear my family's voices, I will be stepping off a plane to hug them in person. I feel like such an old missionary!! Time really flies when you are serving the Lord!!!
There have been some pretty cool developments here in Pace as well. Brother Tom is still trying to completely quit drinking coffee and he is doing pretty well! Sister Shumway and I were brainstorming ideas for how we can help him even more. We remembered that there is a drink called "Pero". It's like a coffee substitute, so it tastes the same but it isn't actually coffee. We decided to try to get him some. So we ran into the store really quickly and made our way to the coffee aisle, which is not a place that two Mormon Missionaries generally go. When we got there, there was an attendant stocking some shelves that looked very familiar to me for some reason. He said I looked familiar as well, and after some discussion we realized that he is a student at UWF that Sister Adams and I gave a copy of the Book of Mormon to SIX MONTHS AGO. After making this realization, I excitedly asked him if he had had a chance to read any of it, and he said that he has flipped through it some. Then he asked US if he could come do a study with us! I can only say that Divine Intervention is very real, because the chances of me meeting him again, in the Coffee Aisle of a grocery store in a completely different area are very slim I am sure. We ended up not finding the Pero, and we left the store empty handed. The next day we mentioned to a member that we had been trying to find something to help Brother Tom, and the member had some coffee substitute on hand that she was happy to give us! So miracles are happening every single day, and sometimes God sets things up perfectly. His guiding hand is also not so obvious sometimes, and that is okay too.
This week I have thought a lot about God's love. I know it's real and I know it's there, so why do we sometimes feel it less than other times? Firstly, I think God tries our faith for His wise purposes. Secondly, I think the things that we do in our lives invite His love in. If you want to know God loves you, there are a few things you must do. 1- Read from the scriptures daily. (I recommend the Book of Mormon). 2-Pray every morning and every night. 3-Attend church weekly and partake of the sacrament. That's the secret to God's love. How will we feel Him if we never invite Him into our hearts? This week I think I'll be focused a little bit more on letting God love me. I'd invite you to do that same.
Talk to you soon friends! And don't forget to read the Book of Mormon this week. ;D
