June 17, 2018 -- The World Turned Upside Down
MY WHOLE LIFE IS SO DIFFERENT. Being a full-time missionary on a college campus is nothing like anything else I have ever experienced before! I had done booth work on UWF before, but working on TCC is a completely different ball-game.
AND I LOVE IT. On campus, there are new people to talk to every couple steps. At first that terrified me. I thought it was going to be so scary to see all those people and have to talk to them and have them be my own age! But it has been the most incredible experience of my whole mission. On my first day in this area, I was able to give out 4 copies of the Book of Mormon and we found 3 new investigators. This also happened in the brief hour we had between appointments, because there is so much work to do! We have two investigators working towards baptism, and we meet so many people and testify so much. I have never worked this hard in my life, but I have also never felt this fulfilled as a missionary. I know that every single moment of every single day I am wearing myself out in the service of my God, and I don't even have to go find them myself. You just walk around campus and they come to you!!
We have had a couple or really cool contacts that I am very excited about. We met a guy named Gabrille who found out I like musical theatre and told me that if I would change the lyrics from a "Hamilton" song and make it about Joseph Smith, he would get baptized. I'm doing it. I am really excited for it too! We contacted a guy on the bus named Jason, who decided he wanted to met with us after a 30 second conversation about the Book of Mormon. We met a girl named Bella who talked to us about the aura in stones and how meditation helps her feel close to God. When we gave her a copy of the Book of Mormon, she was so TOUCHED and held it like it was the most precious gift anyone had every given her!! College students are so WONDERFUL and kind and open!!! Honestly, everyone here reminds me a little bit of Autumn, though she will always be my person. :)
We have two investigators working towards baptism. I haven't met one of them yet, but the other one, Markese, is so funny! He is an engineering major and he is so matter-of-fact in lessons. Everything we teach just makes so much sense to him, and he is so excited to be baptized in July! We are also teaching a girl named Chandler who is so wonderful and looking for the guidance in her life that the Savior can bring. Another girl, named Mikayla, was raised in a different religion and thought that Mormons weren't Christian at all, and through meeting with us her heart has softened so much! She even told us that she looks forward to reading the Book of Mormon everyday! We also have 20+ other investigators I haven't even met yet!! It is so incredible!!!
Also, Sister Boyce is AWESOME. She is 22 and from Utah, and she just gets me. We can go from cracking jokes to having intense discussions about Christ figures in Literature and our mutual love for Dante's Inferno. I think I am going to get serious abs from the amount of time that we spend laughing.
Another cool thing is that we share our area with the Assistants to the President, and we are neighbors with the Head Sister Training Leaders. So, basically, I see the TOP mission leadership on a very regular basis. I see the APs on Campus about 8 times a day , and the HSTLS pop in on us at night and ask if they can borrow some pretzels. I pretty much feel like I have been kicked out of little league rather violently, but I love it!
We also got to go help with harvesting potatoes this morning! So I still get to do all the awesome service work that I love, with triple the contacting and quadruple the fun!!!
God is good and He answers prayers! Even if you didn't even know you were praying them. I am SO GRATEFUL FOR THE AREA AND MY COMPANION AND MY INVESTIGATORS. My goodness!!! God is SO GOOD!!!
Until next Saturday friends! I am sure I'll have lots of campus stories for you all to hear then. And hey! Don't forget to read the Book of Mormon!!
