July 2, 2018 -- My Questing Soul
Hey Everyone!!
Once again, this has been such an incredible week. I cannot believe how blessed I am to be serving on TCC and to have Sister Boyce as my companion! I don't even know where to start with this week.
We have an investigator named Markese who is getting ready to be baptized. He is doing really well, and if things continue the way they are going he will be baptized next Saturday! He is such a matter-of-fact guy. It reminds me a lot of my brother, Derik. He makes us laugh with his spot-on comedic timing and comments in our lessons. That should be some great news for the next email!
One of my favorite parts of being a campus missionary is the very unique service we get to give. We often volunteer with a group here in Tallahassee that helps relocate and move in refugees, both from Syria and the Congo. We attended a volunteer lunch on Tuesday and we met some of the most incredible and inspiring people I have ever been honored to talk to. Their stories and determination help me to want to do more for the world. The music and food was also terrific. They combined parts of the two cultures to make a lunch and presentation unlike anything I have previously been a part of.
Sister Boyce and I have also started a few fun traditions! We get sushi for dinner every Friday night and we have pizza on Mondays. She finished her rubix cube by herself this week and is now memorizing the process. We also went to a little farmer's market in town today with a member named Maddie, who is one of the coolest people I have ever met. We got homemade soap and cheese and it's so great.
Sister Boyce and I have continued to geek out over our mutual love of literature. Sometimes we will read/hear a beautiful phrase and it becomes a part of our conversation for days. (Along with the growing plethora of inside jokes!) This week, we read a letter from Hugh B. Brown, formerly a member of the 12 Apostles. In his letter, he described his relationship with faith as follows. "My questing soul still questions." That gorgeous phrase has repeated in my mind over and over as we have moved throughout this week. Sometimes, we don't know the meaning of everything and we can't answer every question. We are allowed to have doubts and fears! We are all on a quest, and we all have dragons that we are trying to slay. However, we cannot let those questions or doubts hold us back! We must constantly overcome and continue on our journey, believing that things will be okay. My questing soul doesn't know exactly what I will do after my mission, or exactly what to say to every person we meet on campus. I do have questions. But I press on, knowing that it will all be perfect in the end.
Sorry I don't have any pictures this week. I keep forgetting to take them because I'm having too much fun! Dont forget how much God loves you, and until next time, remember to read the Book of Mormon!
