October 22, 2018 -- Romeo, We're Not on Campus Anymore!
Whoa. Adventure is out there ladies and gentleman! My current adventure in Alabama started out a little differently than I expected, though I will get to that. I'll start with saying goodbye to the Tallahassee 5th Ward and Sister Hamblin.
Monday and Tuesday went by way too fast. From packing to one last FHE and Institute, I felt like time was rushing me to say goodbye as quickly as possible. Monday night was probably the hardest part, besides the actual goodbyes on Tuesday night. FHE was out by the firepit. Being there, out by the fire, talking and laughing with everyone made me realize how much I was really going to miss everything about campus work, especially the people. Sister Hamblin also accidently stabbed me with Erik's sword. (I had to put that in Sister Hamblin! It was hilarious!) I didn't get hurt, just startled. I also had a pretty good bruise for a couple days. Good times.
On Tuesday we had District Council and then Brittany, Will, Sister Hamblin and I all went out to eat. I am actually really proud that I didn't cry, but I got really close a few times. It would have been better if Steven and Erik were there, but I will take what I can get for my little goodbye lunch. Brittany and Will are incredible, and I got to give them one last spiritual thought. I hope I didn't freak them out with my overwhelming amount of love and support, haha! We also had my last Book of Mormon Session with everyone, and Erik and Renae came to that. We read Moroni 10, and I couldn't imagine a better chapter to finish on. I also got to say goodbye to Maddie, Ashley, and Alex at Institute. Walking out of that building was honesty one of the hardest things I have done on my mission. Wow- I miss all of those amazing people as much already.
Wednesday rolled around and I had to say goodbye to Sister Hamblin. WOW I love her! She has grown so much, and I can't wait to continue watching her grow and change throughout the rest of her mission. There is no one in the world I would trust TCC with besides her. It was hard to hug her goodbye, but it is going to be okay! I'll see her again, sooner than we expect. Time moves fast on a mission!
So, on to my current new adventure! I was very excited to be going to a family ward again because of the opportunity to do planned service activities. It has been a while, since campus missionaries don't really get that chance. The very first thing we did in this area was go to an animal shelter to help them walk the dogs. It was adorable, until the Elders we work with (Elder Dickinson and Elder Coumbs) decided to give Sister Smith (my new companion!) a dog named Romeo to walk. They didn't tell us that Romeo likes to be the only dog out at a time. So Romeo ATTACKS the dog that I am walking! I'm trying to pull my dog away, and as I'm doing that, Romeo attacks ME. And I'm not talking like, a dog running after me or anything, I mean that this dog literally tackled me and I was on the ground while it was trying to bite me. I eventually got it off of me and back into it's kennel. I'm also really proud that I only got a few minimal scratches from the whole experience. So yeah- that was the first thing that happened in Daleville. Nice introduction.
We did work for helping hands on Thursday, Saturday, and Sunday, so I don't really have that much to report for the rest of the week. I have been in Florida, Georgia, and Alabama multiple times this week! I spent 17 months only in Florida, and now I visit all the states on a daily basis. Ironic right? I got to see Rachel from the 5th Ward in Marianna though! That was an amazing surprise. Also, because of all the work that needs to be done, church has been shortened to only Sacrament meeting for an undecided amount of time. So, basically, that means that I might never actually get to meet the Daleville Ward. It makes me sad and makes adjusting to this transfer a little hard, but I'm figuring it out. I always do! My work crew is made entirely of members that are in the Enterprise Ward (the ward right next to us), and so I still haven't met anyone from my own ward. They are really sweet people though! I made friends with these two girls named Emily and Kalee Smith. We are going to write a book together and they want me to marry their older brother so that they can "keep" me.
We did get to go do regular missionary work on Friday, which was good. We went to go see an elderly couple in the ward who haven't been to church in a while. During that visit, the lady peed in front of us with her bathroom door open, they argued for a long time about when "she" moved to Ohio (we still aren't sure who "she" is?), and they gave us each an entire half gallon of ice-cream to eat. So I suppose the work I am doing now is a little bit different from campus life! Lots of good stories though.
Besides that, life moves on. My new companion, Sister Smith, is insanely gorgeous and sweet. I like working with her, and though we have only been companions for 5 days, we are already saying almost everything at the same time. I'm excited to work with her more. We have almost no one to teach in this area, so I am excited to hit the ground running. Hopefully I will leave some good work to do for whoever comes in after me.
Love you all much! I hope you feel that, and God's love for you this week. I'm too lazy to explain my pictures this week. If you read my email, you'll know what they are from. Talk to you again soon, and until then- don't forget to read the Book of Mormon!
